Keeping ChromeOS Up To Date

Keeping ChromeOS Up To Date

March 1st 2021

Another week, another article! Congratulations on continuing to persevere through this very strange year. I'm sure that your teachers have been using a wide variety of online, digital tools and programs to supplement or deliver their course materials. All of these things function best if the operating system of your Chromebook is up to date. By staying on top of this, you not only ensure that updates do not try downloading while you're in class, but you also have immediate access to any new features and fixes.

What is an operating system?

  • An operating system is base-level software that manages computer hardware, software resources, and provides common services for computer programs. Let's use the analogy of a restaurant. You can think of the operating system as the manager, the physical building and cooking equipment as the hardware and all of the employees as the software resources.

How do I update my Chromebook's operating system?

  • Click on the time in the bottom right hand corner.

  • Click on the settings gear.

  • Click on "About Chrome" in the left column of the window that appears.

  • Click on the "Check For Updates" button.

  • Restart your device when prompted.

  • For good measure, also perform a hardware reset.

Thank you for reading - as always we are wishing you a wonderful and productive week.
